From 11 June Southern Railway will be re-instating a 7 day a week, all day hourly train service to Appledore. With the existing half hourly peak hour service, the stopping of the all day Brighton to Ashford International trains at Appledore will give probably the best service ever provided.

The last train to Folkestone harbour ran on a very dark miserable December 14th from London top and tailed by two 47/7 locos and the Blue Pullmans. Under plans for the redevelopment of the Harbour area into a Marina, the brick Viaduct, a major feature of the harbour area will be lost.

The Dungeness branch is the remaining section of the New Romney to Appledore branch and remains open to serve the Nucleur Power Stations at Dungeness. There are closed stations on the branch at both Brookland and Lydd Town. Plans are in hand for a passenger link using the line between Appledore and Lydd in conjunction with the proposed expansion of Lydd Airport. Railtours occasionally traverse the line and track maintenance trains are regular visitors.
